French Y10

The French Department is a dynamic, enthusiastic department, which endeavours to make learning languages fun and meaningful. Our aim is to develop a life-long love of language learning in our pupils, to build their cultural awareness and to ensure that every pupil is able to reach his/her full potential. We will achieve this by delivering outstanding French lessons, which are well-structured, engaging and relevant to learners.

We are committed to marking all pupils’ books regularly and providing effective feedback. Pupils will be allocated time within lessons and homework tasks to make those corrections. We consistently emphasise that it is ok to make mistakes. We believe where pupils learn is in deciding how they move on from these errors. We provide the pupils with many opportunities for collaboration and independent work in each lesson.

Our department aims to encourage pupils to use the target language with each other in pair and group work. We ensure that pupils are hearing authentic language each time they are in the MFL classroom. This open environment allows pupils to grow in confidence and not feel intimidated in speaking out in front of the class.
