Boys’ Football at Charterhouse Independent School

Boys’ Football at Charterhouse Independent School

On Saturday 5th October our Y8 and 9 football teams travelled to play Charterhouse Independent School’s football teams. As one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the world it was a great opportunity for our boys to build their cultural capital. Football and Charterhouse School have a very special history. It was the first place football was played in it’s current format. It was the ‘Old¬†Cathusians’ (Charterhouse Alumni) that took their schools version of Football to Oxford and Cambridge University and created the shared rules and regulations.

The boys travelled up via coach and arrived outside the main dining hall. Whilst parents and visiting staff enjoyed a drink and snack at the on-site coffee shop, the boys made their way down to the changing rooms outside the aquatics centre. Although Charterhouse won both football matches the Portsmouth Academy boys thoroughly enjoyed the match tea and cakes provided afterwards as well as looking around the grand main building.

In what was a first meeting of State v Independent School football teams, all came out having had a positive experience. The hosts commented on how well behaved our boys were and that we were welcome back any time.
