Year 7 Dance

Autumn Term

An introduction to dance. In this term, students will be learning a range of choreographic skills within the unit of ‘World Dance’. Basic actions will be taught and they will learn to rehearse, choreograph and perform in varying group sizes. They will be assessed twice in the Autumn term, once within in a baseline performance and again at the end of the unit to see what skills they have learnt.

Spring Term

This term students will be developing their basic dance skills within the unit of ‘Musicals’. They will recap the basic actions learnt last term and have an introduction in how to use space effectively. Students will learn to rehearse, choreograph and perform in varying group sizes. At the end of the unit they will be assessed on their group choreography and understanding to see what skills they have learnt.

Summer Term

Within this term students will continue their knowledge of choreography with the unit ‘Dance within Film’. Alongside actions and space they will be developing their choreography work with the use of relationships and how they can be used to highlight parts of a film dance. They will work in varying group sizes to rehearse and use performance skills to perform different film pieces. At the end of the unit they will be assessed on their group choreography and understanding to see what skills they have learnt this term.
