A message from our Headteacher Mrs Dedman

It is a privilege to be the Headteacher of The Portsmouth Academy and to play a part in the lives of the young people in our community. 

As a long-standing leader at the school, I know our students and staff well. I am proud to build on the progress already made during my time as a senior leader at the school.

I am supported by an experienced leadership team, along with our Regional Director, Mrs Smith, and Mr Dolphin, Head of Standards and Assessment. Together, we will continue to support and challenge the school, so we keep improving. 

I am working closely with leaders and schools across the Thinking Schools Academy Trust. By doing this, I can ensure the best practice is implemented in our school.  

Starting secondary school is an important step. It brings excitement, curiosity, and new opportunities. At The Portsmouth Academy, we work hard to make sure every student feels known, valued, and supported from their very first day. 

Our mission is simple: Transforming Life Chances. This guides everything we do and every decision we make. 

We believe change happens through the “Thousand Little Moments” that take place every day. A friendly welcome at the door, extra help from a teacher, a new friendship forming, or a student trying something challenging, these small moments add up over time. Together, they build confidence, character, and ambition. 

At The Portsmouth Academy, students try new subjects, take part in different opportunities, and make new friends. We encourage them to think carefully, work hard, and be kind to others. Our staff provide strong teaching and support so every student can succeed. We have high expectations because we believe every child can achieve their best. 

We are proud of our community and the strong relationships we have with families and carers. By working together, celebrating success, and supporting each other through challenges, we help every student grow and succeed. 

I would also like to thank our staff, students, and families for their continued hard work and support. Everything we do is focused on helping every child achieve the best possible outcomes, and we will keep working together to achieve this.
