Year 9 strive to promote importance of mental health awareness at Portsmouth Football Club

March 21, 2024 09:52am

A group of Year 9 pupils from The Portsmouth Academy have been working to make mental health awareness a more comfortable topic for discussion.

The Social Action Project, delivered by Pompey in the Community, focuses on urging Portsmouth Football Club and its fans to continue the conversation on mental health awareness.

The passionate team from our school, along with other schools within the city, created green bibs/kits for players and mascots to wear during matches, promoting their campaign which would be called #PompeyGetTalking.

The slogan would be displayed on the back of the tops.

Supporting this initiative, they want Portsmouth Football Club and the wider community office to share a video on its social media pages featuring both male and female first-team players discussing mental health topics, which will hopefully inspire the City of Portsmouth to get talking.

Social media posts will also include mental health service information.

Promotional support will be provided by the Football Club and Community team by using the hashtag and barcode in flyers, halftime screens, social media, and a feature in the matchday programmes.

If additional funding is needed, the group plans to organise a charity match.

The extra funding raised can be used to create matching merch for fans to purchase, including green kit tops, badges and wristbands, all stating the #PompeyGetTalking message.
